SUPERIOR COURT EXPANDS PUBLIC ACCESS TO COURT INFORMATION

Date
February 26, 2009

-- DOCKETS NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE --

The DC Superior Court today announced the successful implementation of the Remote Access to Court Dockets (RACD) system which allows Internet access to case dockets in civil, criminal, domestic violence, tax, and large and small estate probate matters.  Cases can be searched by name or by case number and all docket entries are displayed.  To access the system, go to www.dccourts.gov and click on the blue ‘Remote Access to Superior Court Dockets’ icon, or go directly to the public access page at www.dccourts.gov/pa.

“This is part of our on-going effort to enhance access to the courts and to court information,” said Chief Judge Lee F. Satterfield.  “We hope it will assist the DC community in learning about cases and, if they are involved in a court case, in keeping track of court dates.”

The initiative is responsive to the DC Courts' Strategic Plan goal to expand Internet availability of case information to enhance public access.  It builds upon the move to be an eCourt, including eFiling, which enables litigants to submit documents electronically thereby making the court more accessible. RACD was implemented after the Courts’ Privacy and Public Access to Electronic Court Records Committee carefully examined the impact of providing information over the Internet that affects people’s privacy and public safety.
