Welcome to Jury Duty
Thank you for doing your part for justice in Washington, DC! When you serve on a jury, you help make sure everyone gets a fair trial—no matter who they are.
Jury duty may feel like a big responsibility, but it’s one of the most important ways you can serve your community.
This page will help you understand what to expect, how to prepare, and where to go for help. Whether this is your first time or you’ve served before, we want you to feel confident, informed and ready to serve.
Here's What to Do
A jury summons is a letter from the court telling you that you have been selected for possible jury duty. If you get a summons, you must respond — even if you think you can’t serve. If you ignore it, you could face a fine or other penalties. You must report for jury service on the date and time shown in your summons unless the court excuses you or reschedules your date.
Step 1. Respond to the Summons
Fill out the juror form online or return it by mail. You must do this even if you want to reschedule your date. Can’t access eJuror? Call the Juror Office at (202) 879-4604
Tip: you must respond within 5 days of receiving your summons!
Step 2. Check if You Need to Report
Call 202-879-4604 (Option 5) after 5:00 p.m. the day before your service to see if you need to come in. Grand jurors do not need to call in. Please report to court the day of your service.
