The DC Courts will limit operations on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, for the national day of mourning on the loss of former President George H.W. Bush, given that Federal government agencies that appear before the DC Courts will be closed. Appellate court oral arguments, trial court matters, and other operations will be not take place on Wednesday.
Defendants with hearings set for Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in the Criminal and Domestic Violence Divisions should not report on Thursday, December 6, but instead on Monday, December 10, to have their case heard.Petitioners and respondents in CPO cases with hearings set for Wednesday, December 5 should report on Thursday, December 6, 2018.
DC Superior Court’s statutory courts will operate: adult arraignments (courtroom C-10), juvenile new referrals (first hearings for juveniles charged with a crime/courtroom JM-15), and preventive detention hearings in courtroom 301 for those who were detained at their arraignment in the past week.
Both courts will be open for filings which can be made in the lobby of the DC Superior Court or, for appellate litigants not represented by attorneys, in the DC Court of Appeals’ Public Office in Room 126 of the Historic Courthouse
Jurors should not report for duty.

All other criminal cases will be heard on Monday, December 10, 2018.
Domestic Violence Hearings
Only domestic violence cases with a civil protection order scheduled for Wednesday will be heard on Thursday, December 6, 2018. All other domestic violence hearings will be rescheduled for another date.
All Other Hearings
All other hearings (Probate Cases; Civil Cases - civil actions, landlord and tenant and small claims; and Family Court Cases - adoption, parentage (paternity) and support, divorce, custody, mental health, mental habilitation, all other juvenile cases, neglect, PINS and truancy) will be rescheduled for another date.
