How to Request a Transcript
Please follow the procedures outlined below to obtain a transcript of a hearing held at DC Superior Court.
Obtaining a Page/Cost Estimate to Place a Transcript Order
You may either call the Court Reporting Division at (202) 879-1009 or email TranscriptRecordsClerks [at] dccsystem.gov to get an estimate of the cost of the transcript. You will need to provide the following information in order to for us to provide you with an estimate:
- Superior Court case name
- Superior Court case number
- Date(s) of hearing(s)
- Presiding Judge
With this information, we will be able to provide you with the page estimate, whether it will be a transcript from a Court Reporter or Tape (Transcription Branch), and whether the transcript is an original or a copy. The page estimate we provide is based on the length of the hearing. For example, a hearing that lasted exactly one hour is estimated at approximately 55 pages.
Transcript Costs
The Court Reporting Division only produces transcripts once they are requested to be produced; therefore, the cost of a transcript is dependent on whether the transcript has been previously requested to be produced or not. A transcript that has previously been produced is a “copy,” and a transcript that has not yet been produced is an “original.” When ordering a copy, the total cost of the transcript is due at the time the order is placed. When ordering an original, a 50% deposit is required to begin production of the transcript.
Please note that every effort is made to provide an accurate estimate of the total cost of the transcript. When an original transcript is complete, you will be notified via email of the final balance due. The actual cost of the transcript may differ from the estimate initially provided due to various factors that occurred during the hearing.

Payment Methods
We accept cash, money order, or check. If you need this information, please contact us before writing out your money order or check.
If paying by check for a transcript produced by Tape, a DC Bar Number is required on the check (we cannot accept personal checks without a DC Bar Number for Tape transcripts).
We cannot process a request for transcript via email or over the phone, as we do not accept electronic payment.
