Court Reporting Division

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia is a court of record.  The Court Reporting Division is responsible for processing customers’ transcript requests after the customer has made suitable arrangements to pay the appropriate fee and preparing verbatim written transcripts of court proceedings held in the Superior Court. The transcripts prepared by the Court Reporting Division are the official record of the court proceedings held and may be used for filing with the Court of Appeals and the Superior Court.

The Court Reporting Branch consists of Official Court Reporters and Court Reporter Supervisors. The Official Court Reporters are present in courtrooms to simultaneously capture the proceedings as they are held and to prepare transcripts upon request. In accordance with Superior Court Rules, only an Official Court Reporter who is a court employee or who is under contract with the Court is permitted to record proceedings. 

Our Administrative Branch is comprised of our Public Office and Transcription Section. Our Transcript Records Clerks are our champions of customer service who assist the public and various agencies in the District with transcript requests and provide internal support to our Official Court Reporters, Transcribers, and Case Managers. Our Case Managers act as a liaison between the Superior Court and the Court of Appeals as it pertains to transcripts needed for appeal filings, and they assist members of the public with fee-waived status in obtaining transcripts. In the absence of an Official Court Reporter, a transcript of the proceedings will be prepared by the Courts contracted transcription vendor.
