Overview
The Domestic Violence Division handles cases where people are experiencing abuse, threats, or stalking, or are at risk of harming themselves or others. You can ask for a court order protecting you and your children—even if the police are not involved. The Division handles:
- Civil Protection Orders (CPOs) – orders a partner, family member, roommate, or co-parent to stay away and not contact you
- Anti-Stalking Orders (ASOs) – orders someone who is repeatedly contacting, following, or threatening you to stay away and not contact you.
- Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) – temporarily removes guns from someone who is at risk of harming themselves or others
- Domestic Violence Misdemeanors (DVMs) – crimes committed by a partner, family member, roommate, or co-parent
- Criminal Contempt Cases (CCCs) – cases filed by the government to prosecute protection order violations
