The Honorable Judith Pipe
Bio
Judith Pipe was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. to be an associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on July 11, 2023. Her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 5, 2024.
From January 2020 until this appointment, Judge Pipe served as a magistrate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. During that time, Judge Pipe served in the Criminal, Domestic Violence, and Civil Divisions.
Judge Pipe was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. After completing high school at the age of 16, she graduated cum laude from American University with a B.A. in justice and psychology. Judge Pipe received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law where she graduated magna cum laude.
Following graduation, Judge Pipe joined the trial division of The Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where she served as a trial attorney for 12 years. She represented hundreds of individuals – juveniles and adults – in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia charged with offenses ranging from misdemeanors to felonies.
During her tenure, Judge Pipe also served as lead counsel in dozens of bench and jury trials, including multiple complex and high profile homicide and sexual assault cases. In 2014, Judge Pipe became a supervisor in the trial division, where she was responsible for the supervision and training of multiple trial attorneys.
