The Honorable Tanya Jones Bosier
Bio
Tanya M. Jones Bosier was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. to be an associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on March 21, 2023. Her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 4, 2024.
Judge Jones Bosier was born in Brooklyn, New York, where she graduated from John Dewey High School with honors. Judge Jones Bosier received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Syracuse University, where she received the Maxwell School of Citizenship Community Service Award and a scholarship to study abroad in Harare, Zimbabwe. She received her Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law, where she received the Covington and Burling, LLP and Equal Justice Fellowships. Upon graduation from law school, Judge Jones Bosier served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Zoe A. Bush, Associate Judge (retired) of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
In October 2001, Judge Jones Bosier joined the Office of Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia (now Office of the Attorney General), where she held positions as an Assistant Attorney General, Attorney Advisor, Hearing Officer, and Section Chief. She also served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Department of Human Services.
During her 14-year tenure representing the interest of the District of Columbia and its citizens, Judge Jones Bosier gained extensive experience in administrative, child abuse and neglect, child support, domestic relations, domestic violence, public benefits, and procurement laws, as well as in community engagement, intervention proceedings, policy development, and training.
In June 2015, Judge Jones Bosier returned to the District of Columbia Courts as Assistant General Counsel in the Office of General Counsel, focusing on complex employee relations matters. In January 2017, the Honorable Judge Robert E. Morin (retired) appointed her as a magistrate judge for the Superior Court. In this role, Judge Jones Bosier presided over high-volume calendars in the Civil, Criminal, Domestic Violence, Probate, and Family Court.
Since 2021, Judge Jones Bosier has been actively involved in national and local initiatives aimed at promoting equity within judicial systems. She has contributed to various court committees, including chairing the Abuse and Neglect Subcommittee, and participating in committees such as Judicial Education and Training, Public Education and Court Independence, Mayor Liaison’s Center, Pro Bono and Affordable Counsel, CJA Investigators, as well as the C-10, Landlord and Tenant, Small Claims/Debt Collection, and Mortgage Foreclosure Working Groups.
Judge Jones Bosier is an adjunct professor in the externship program at American University Washington College of Law. She is committed to community service and actively volunteers with bar associations and local organizations. In 2018, Judge Jones Bosier received the American University Washington College of Law Hairston Alumni Award for her achievements in the legal field and her dedication to the law school. Additionally, she was honored as Adjunct Professor of the Year for the 2014–2015 academic year in recognition of her outstanding mentorship of law students.
