Overview
The Office of General Counsel (OGC) provides legal services to the DC Courts in numerous substantive areas, including but not limited to, appropriations, bar administration, civil, contracts and procurement, courts’ administration and operation, criminal, employee rights and benefits, ethics, government accounting, judicial conduct and retirement, judicial procedures, legislation, litigation, personnel and human resources, rulemaking, and tax.
OGC also serves a legal advisory function, providing legal advice and counsel to DC Courts’ leadership, the Joint Committee on Judicial Administration of the District of Columbia (Joint Committee), and Chief Judges for the Court of Appeals and Superior Court, Executive Officer, Associate Judges, Magistrate Judges, divisional directors, and managers. The DC Courts’ General Counsel serves as the DC Courts’ Ethics Officer.
