The Status Offender and Behavioral Health BARJ (Balanced and Restorative Justice Drop-In Center) is multi-faceted facility, encompassing a satellite probation office and serving as an alternative to detention for at-risk youth with charges relating to truancy, as well as status offenders (also known as Persons in Need of Supervision, or PINS, many of whom are runaways), and youth with behavioral health challenges. This facility builds on the BARJ pro-social model that the Court pioneered in 2007, and this event constitutes the official opening of the Superior Court’s fourth BARJ Drop-in Center in the District.
