Local Prosecutor James "Jeb" Boasberg to be sworn-in tomorrow

Jeb Boasberg will be sworn Friday, September 20, 2002 as an Associate Judge in DC's Superior Court

WHO: Chief Judge Rufus King III, presiding Judge Lynn Liebovitz will swear-in the new judge Judge-designate Jeb Boasberg 
 
BACKGROUND: James E. Boasberg is a native Washingtonian and a graduate of St. Albans School. He received a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, in History in 1985 from Yale College, where he was a member of the basketball team. Mr. Boasberg then received an M.St. in Modern European History from Oxford University in 1986 and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1990. 
 
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Boasberg served as a law clerk to the Honorable Dorothy W. Nelson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Following his clerkship, he was a litigation associate at Keker and Van Nest in San Francisco, and at Kellogg, Huber, Hansen, Todd and Evans in Washington, DC In private practice, his concentration was in civil litigation, particularly First Amendment defamation law, on which subject he has published several articles. In December 1996, Mr. Boasberg joined the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia as an Assistant United States Attorney. Over the last 5 years, he has served in various sections in the office, and he has tried many serious felony cases in both the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the US District Court for the District of Columbia. Over the past 2 years, Mr. Boasberg specialized in homicide cases and prosecuted a number of high-profile matters, including the Gallaudet slayings and the National Zoo shooting. 
 
Mr. Boasberg was a founder of, and currently chairs the committee that awards, the Bishop John T. Walker Fellowship, a grant that enables a St. Albans School student to perform a summer of social service in a less developed country. He also has been a member of the Ellington Development Council, which promotes consciousness of, and raises money for, the Duke Ellington School for the Arts. Mr. Boasberg is married to Elizabeth Manson. They have three young children: a son and twin daughters.
