BIOGRAPHIES:
Marisa J. Demeo served from July 2004 as an Assistant US Attorney in the District of Columbia. As an assistant US attorney, Ms. Demeo worked as a criminal prosecutor in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in several sections: the Misdemeanor Trial Section, the Felony Trial Section, the Grand Jury Section, and the Sex Offense Domestic Violence Trial Section. From January 1997 to July 2004, Ms. Demeo served as Regional Counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), in Washington, DC and also found time to be an Adjunct Professor at Howard University School of Law. While working at MALDEF, Ms. Demeo advocated Latino legal civil rights issues such as employment, voting, education, and immigrants’ rights. Ms. Demeo has received several honors and awards, including a Special Achievement Award at the DC US Attorney’s Office, recognition as a Rising Legal Star by the Hispanic Bar Association of DC, received the Congressional Black Caucus Chair’s Award. Ms. Demeo graduated with her B.A. in Politics from Princeton University in 1988 and received her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1993.
Alfred S. Irving, Jr., since 1993, has worked as a trial attorney in several Department of Justice divisions. Since 2001, Mr. Irving was employed in the Environment & Natural Resources Division, Environmental Enforcement Section, where he prosecuted corporations and individuals for violation of federal environmental laws. As an attorney for the Department of Justice and as an Associate Attorney in private practice, Mr. Irving has offered his service in pro bono matters, including child custody litigation occurring in the Family Court of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. In 2005, the Department of Justice granted Mr. Irving Special Commendation for Outstanding Service and in that same year, the Environmental Protection Agency awarded Mr. Irving a Bronze Medal for Commendable Service. Mr. Irving received a B.A. in History from Wake Forrest University in 1981 and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1987, where he was on Law Review.
