-- NEW INITIATIVE TO HELP FATHERS RETURNING FROM INCARCERATION --
With one in four DC prisoners owing court-ordered child support, the DC Family Court and the Office of Attorney General are partnering to launch a new Fathering Court. On Tuesday at 10:30 am, Judge Anita Josey-Herring, Presiding Judge of the DC Superior Court’s Family Court, DC Attorney General Linda Singer, and Magistrate Judge Milton Lee will hold a press conference to unveil the new Fathering Court program. The goal of this initiative is to help the thousands of DC children who grow up without meaningful contact or guidance from at least one parent. The Fathering Court will provide parents, with an initial focus on those who have recently been incarcerated, with the tools to become emotionally and financially responsible for their children. The Fathering Court will combine needs-assessment, case management, and community resources (with an emphasis on employment) to give non-custodial parents the ability to meet the needs of their children.
