WASHINGTON – The DC Superior Court’s Community Court program will be partnering with Unity Health Care in a pilot program that will give eligible DC residents who are in the courthouse and are without access to health care services assistance in registering for these much-needed services.    

Unity Health Care will be at the courthouse every Tuesday and Thursday to provide for registration and assist clients with eliminating any other barriers to health care.  In order to qualify, the individual or family must be a DC resident and meet certain income level restrictions.  Those who are interested or have questions should come to room 115 of the Moultrie Courthouse, at the door to Courtroom 115 (the DC Misdemeanor and Traffic Community Court) between the hours of 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.    

Unity Health Care is a provider of medical care and human services to the DC's poor and underserved residents.  The organization is teaming with Superior Court on this groundbreaking initiative to provide access and eliminate barriers to health care that many DC residents face.  Unity works with clients who have no current health care provider, those that have no current health insurance, and assists individuals who may need everything from care for HIV to assistance with applying for Medicaid, Medicare or other government programs.      

“This program is another one of the Superior Court’s efforts to do more than just process cases and defendants, but to try to assist those who come before us.  Many of those who appear in our Community Court are uninsured and in need of health care. Our partnership with Unity Health Care will help DC residents to get the medical attention they need to live better, healthier lives,” said Chief Judge Rufus G. King III. 
 
“Through this partnership, Unity Health Care plans to serve those most in need of the organization’s services, those that are harder to reach with traditional messages, including young adult males, adult males, and parents.  We will be able to ensure that clients who are not currently in care can gain access to HIV primary care services, dental services, in addition to all primary care services,” said Vincent Keane, President and CEO of Unity Health Care of DC.
