WASHINGTON, DC - On Monday, May 2, 2011, the DC Courts will begin accepting credit cards in the Civil Actions Branch of the Superior Court. The program will be expanded to all DC Court operations, and will include the ability to make on-line payments, by the end of the year.
The Courts will accept American Express, bank debit and check cards, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. Funds collected by the Courts from fines and fees are held by the US Treasury in an account dedicated for use by the Crime Victims Compensation Program which reimburses local crime victims for expenses they incur as a result of the crime.
Credit cards cannot be accepted for payments that do not go to the US Treasury, such as restitution paid by an offender to a victim, amounts held in escrow, and payments made for criminal bonds.
The Civil Division is located in room 5000 of the Moultrie Courthouse, 500 Indiana Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
