The DC Misdemeanor and Traffic Community Court has been selected to receive a Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) 2010 Momentum Award. The Momentum Awards recognize “outstanding individual and organizational achievements in Downtown DC,” according to Downtown BID Executive Director Richard R. Bradley. The DC Misdemeanor and Traffic Community Court will receive the Downtown Partnership Award for its problem-solving approach to criminal justice and effective partnerships with local organizations, including the BID, to help criminal offenders fulfill community service hours, hold them accountable and create a better downtown environment.
The Downtown BID will honor seven downtown leaders and most-talked-about projects at this year’s Momentum Awards ceremony. Business owners, developers, city officials, partner organizations and residents will meet at the ceremony “to salute visionaries who contribute to the remarkable urban experience that is Downtown.” The Partnership Award goes to an organization that has made a “unique, positive contribution to a program or project in the Downtown; or that has been responsible for a project or program that has complemented the work of the DC government and the BID.”
“I am proud of the work of the DCMTCC, the judges, the staff and all of our partners who have helped create a program that teaches defendants accountability and addresses their underlying issues, while imposing community service that enhances the quality of life in our community,” said Superior Court Chief Judge Lee Satterfield.
