The DC Courts will hold their 32nd annual judicial conference this Friday, June 15, 2007. Judges, members of the DC Bar, administration officials and community members will discuss means of decreasing violence in the district. The keynote/luncheon speaker is Mayor Adrian Fenty.

The conference will begin with reports on the state of the DC Courts, followed by a dramatic performance on the topic of youth violence by the members of the Northeast Performing Arts Group. The morning will focus on Youth Crime and Prevention, with panels such as: “Can We Save Our Children?,” to be moderated by DC Council Chair Vincent Gray, with panelists Family Court Presiding Judge Anita Josey-Herring, Police Chief Cathy Lanier; Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services Director Vincent Schiraldi and Peaceholics’ Ron Moten; and a session on Mentoring, to be moderated by Marian Urquilla, of the Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative. The afternoon will focus on adult violence intervention and the Impact of Evidence-Based Sentencing with a panel discussion including Jasper Ormand, Deputy Director of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA); Criminal Division Presiding Judge Ann O’Regan Keary; Isaac Fulwood of the US Parole Commission, and with closing remarks by CSOSA Director Paul Quander.
