Introduction:
The Honorable Yvonne Williams, Associate Judge
Superior Court of the District of Columbia

The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) is a national crisis. It is a known fact that youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems are the most at risk for CSEC. HOPE Court represents D.C. Superior Court’s effort to address the issue in a manner that is sensitive to the needs of child victims of sexual exploitation. In creating a specialized court for them, and relying on community and interagency collaboration, these child victims can be identified, treated, and supported with appropriate resources. Through increased awareness and understanding of the breadth of the problem and the challenges facing the victims, it is hoped that the D.C. Community will become better able to identify causes and risk factors, in order to address CSEC on a citywide basis.
