Tax Mediation ProcessTax cases are referred to mediation at the initial status hearing for residential and commercial property cases. Mediation is scheduled at least ninety days from the date of the initial status hearing. Notice is mailed to the attorneys and pro se parties.
- All parties participating in mediation must submit a Confidential Settlement Statement (CSS) and/or Settlement Offer form to the Multi-Door Division and the Office of Attorney General at least 60 days prior to the date of mediation.
Location of sessions and logisticsTax mediation sessions are held on Wednesdays only from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Multi-Door Dispute Resolution Division, Court Building C, 410 E Street, N.W. Tax cases are allotted 45 minutes per case to mediate which can vary depending on the progress of the mediation. Follow-up sessions may be scheduled as necessary.
Tax Lien Mediation ProcessTax Lien Mediation cases are referred to mediation during the Initial Scheduling Conference or Status Hearing. The courtroom clerk selects and schedules the mediation date. Notice is hand delivered or mailed to the attorneys and pro se parties.
- Tax Lien Mediations are held on Wednesdays between 9:00 am and 11:00 am in hearing room 205 or courtroom 200, located in the Carl Moultrie Building, 500 Indiana Avenue, NW, unless the mediator makes prior arrangement for the mediation to be held in an alternate location (typically the attorney’s office or the Multi-Door mediation center). Confidential Settlement Statements are not required in this program.
