The Superior Court Drug Intervention Program (AKA Drug Court) is a special court designed to handle cases involving substance-abuse defendants with non violent misdemeanor and felony charges.or others deemed eligible by the United States Attorneys Office and Drug Court Judge. The Drug Court is managed by the Pretrial Services Agency.

The program offers offenders a comprehensive approach to address their addiction. Drug Court includes supervision, drug testing, treatment services, and immediate sanctions and incentives.

Prostitution Court

The Prostitution Court addresses all solicitation charges. The Prostitution Court attempts to resolve solicitation cases short of trial, such as STET dockets with a stay away /curfew, John School and Diversion, and to provide solutions such as Dept. of Public Works/Parks and Business Improvement District (BID) service, employment programs, drug court, mental health programs, etc.

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia established the Mental Health Diversion Program in October, 2007. The purpose of the pilot program was to address the increased number of mentally ill individuals, with serious co-occurring substance abuse disorders, involved with the criminal justice system. The goal of the Mental Health Diversion Program to connect the defendants with support services including mental health, drug and/or alcohol treatment.

Eligibility for the program is determined by the United States’ Attorney’s Office. The Mental Health Diversion Program is patterned on the existing mental health diversion used in the East of the River Community Court, where it utilizes Deferred Prosecution Agreements (DPA) supervised by the Pretrial Services Agency’s (PSA) Specialized Supervision Unit (SSU), with the full participation of the USAO and PSA.

• To reduce the criminal justice involvement of program participants, and improve the mental health of program participants by connecting them with appropriate services in the community and monitoring their progress in the Diversion program.
• To reduce crime in the community and protect public safety by reducing the re-arrest rates of mentally ill defendants.
• To increase treatment engagement on the part of program participants. This is not limited to treatment compliance alone, but focuses also on the location of where treatment is received, i.e. outpatient treatment in the community as compared with inpatient hospitalization, and integrated treatment for mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
