Getting Involved at Multi-Door

What is Multi-Door?

Multi-Door, short for Multi-Door Dispute Resolution Division, is the mediation center for the D.C. Superior Court. It was created in 1985 as part of a pilot project sponsored by the American Bar Association and became a full operating division of the court in 1989. Today, the Multi-Door Division provides Washington, D.C. residents and litigants with a neutral forum for settling a wide array of disputes including family, child protection, small claims, civil, landlord and tenant, tax, probate, and community issues. A full-time staff of 20 administers the Division's various mediation, conciliation, arbitration, recruitment, and training programs.

Multi-Door recruits mediators in two ways. Trained and highly-qualified mediators should apply through the open enrollment process. Applying through the open enrollment process does not guarantee you will be selected. Persons interested in the Family Mediation and Child Protection programs must complete supplemental applications, both of which are accessible through the links below. Applications are reviewed on an as needed basis. Based on your application Multi-Door may qualify you conditionally. If you qualify, Multi-Door staff will arrange to observe you in a mediation session. If your application is accepted, you will be invited to mediate in a Multi-Door program on an as needed basis. Please mail your application to:

Open Enrollment Application

People interested in mediating at Multi-Door who do not meet the minimum qualification in the Open Enrollment Application may apply to a Multi-Door training, when offered. We typically train in a particular program once every three years. Multi-Door does not have any trainings scheduled at this time. If you would like to be notified of our next training, please send us your email address and we will contact you when we schedule our next training.
