NEW! The Family Court announces the 2011 process for recruitment of attorneys who will represent children, parents,
and other parties in neglect, juvenile, and PINS cases. The 2011 Notice contains instructions for applying;
the 2011 Application Form contains additional instructions. The applications must be filed on-line.
Effective February 7, 2011, the Juvenile & Neglect, Paternity & Support (including the Finance Office) and Domestic Relations Branches of the Family Court Operations Division will commence operations from their new location on the John Marshal level of the Moultrie Building, Room JM-300. The Marriage Bureau and the CCAN Office are still located on the 4th floor.
DRESS GUIDELINES FOR VISITORS TO THE D.C. COURTS
The District of Columbia Courts respects individual styles and fashion trends.
However, certain attire is not suitable when conducting business at or visiting the D.C.
Courts because it distracts from the orderliness of the trial, is threatening, or is
contrary to the civility and dignity of the judicial branch.
Persons wearing inappropriate attire may be excluded from the courthouse and its courtrooms.
Inappropriate attire includes, but is not limited to: gang paraphernalia and insignia;
exposed undergarments; clothing with words, depictions, or messages that are intimidating or obscene;
clothing with sexual or drug references; and sheer, see-through, or provocative clothing.

The jurisdiction of the Family Court Operations Division includes the following
types of cases: abuse and neglect, juvenile, domestic relations,
domestic violence, paternity and support, mental health and
habilitation and adoptions. To the greatest extent practicable,
feasible and lawful, cases involving members of the same family
are heard by one judge in order to minimize court appearances,
reduce the risk of conflicting court orders and ensure quality
decisions based on the full knowledge of the issues affecting
the family.
